Business Email Compromise (BEC) attacks are among the most financially damaging forms of cybercrime. This case demonstrates the importance of rapid response.
The Incident
A UK manufacturing company received what appeared to be a legitimate email from their CEO, requesting an urgent wire transfer of $750,000 to a new supplier. The email was from a spoofed domain.
Rapid Response
Fortunately, the finance controller became suspicious and contacted our emergency line within 2 hours. Our banking partnership team immediately contacted the receiving bank to freeze the funds.
Full Recovery
Thanks to quick action and our established relationships with international banks, we recovered the full $750,000 before the scammers could withdraw the funds.
Lesson: Always verify wire transfer requests through a secondary channel, especially for large amounts.
